Despite the difficult wartime, when many Ukrainian packaging companies were damaged and some were destroyed, when some companies changed their location, moving to the western regions of the country, the Club Packagers of Ukraine had no doubts about holding the XXVI All-Ukrainian competitions for the best packaging and label. They believed that this would provide psychological help to the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the war against Russia.
This year, the competitions “Ukrainian Packing Star“, “Ukrainian Label” and “Packaging of the Future” were supported by the companies Flexores, the Ukrainian Packaging&Ecological Coalition (UKRPEC), the Coca-Cola HBC Ukraine and the “Packaging of the Future” competition was also supported by the companies GUALAPAK UKRAINE and Company Univest Marketing. Informational support was provided by the magazine Packaging.
This year, 40 samples of packages and labels from 22 companies from eight Ukrainian cities took part in the competitions. Companies from Latvia – from Riga and Saldus – took part in the competition for the best packaging for the second time. 32 packaging samples and 10 label samples developed by young designers from seven universities and academies from five cities of Ukraine were submitted to the “Packaging of the Future – 2024” competition.
The expert jury of the competitions “Ukrainian Packing Star 2024”, “Ukrainian Label 2024” included well-known packaging specialists in Ukraine and abroad, among whom was Iveta Krauja, former Chairwomen of the Board of the Packaging Association of Latvia.
On April 5, 2024, an online meeting of the jury was held. This method is not optimal for carrying out such events, but there was no other option. The organizers relied on the high professional level and practical experience of the jury members. In addition, they all understand the current trends in the development of packaging in the world, so it was not difficult for them to determine the winners, paying attention to the safety, convenience, economy and efficiency of packaging, its materials and construction, recycling and disposal. Most of the samples received close to each other scores. After a professional discussion, the jury determined the winners.
They became companies:
GUALAPAK UKRAINE, LLC from the Sumy city (3 awards), Company Univest Marketing, LLC (2 awards), КASKAD, LLC (2 awards) and TCD, LLC (2 awards). Another 16 companies received one award each. Among them is the company MAAG LATVIJA, JSC (Latvia) – for Packaging for RAKVERE minced meat. Several companies received special prizes of the competition.
Thus, awards from the Packaging Association of Latvia were awarded to the Company Univest Marketing, LLC for a Paper cup with barrier coating UniCup and Molded fiber lid UniLids and GUALAPAK UKRAINE, LLC for a series of spouted pouches with cap for healthy sweets.
On April 18, 2024, at the award ceremony during the IFFIP Food Industry and Packaging Forum, the winners of the XXVI competitions for the best Ukrainian packaging and label received awards. The organizers have prepared the catalog “All-Ukrainian Competitions – 2024“, which includes all samples of packages and labels that participated in this year’s competitions.
